This is one of the most beautiful places to visit in the Keys. Thanks to Henry Flagler's railroad to Key West, the remote island of Bahia Honda was turned into a stunning tropical destination. The park consists of 524 acres. This is where Bahia Honda Channel meets the Atlantic Ocean. Today the island is home to of Florida's southernmost state parks, known for beautiful beaches, beautiful sunsets, snorkeling, boating, picnicking, swimming, or just relaxing.

Here you can enjoy the cool sea breezes that caress the shore line every day. Anglers can fish from the shore or launch a boat at the boat ramp. The parks concession building rents kayaks and snorkeling gear and offers boat trips to the reef for snorkeling excursions. Bahia Honda is an excellent place to see birds wading in the turquoise water. The nature center can introduce you to the islands unique plants and animals. Full facility campsites and vacation cabins are available here. The maximum stay for camp sites and RV is two weeks. With the cabins, there is a two night minimum, and a one week maximum stay. Bahia Honda is located 12 miles south of Marathon at mile marker 37.

This is the entrance to Bahia Honda State Park located at mile marker 37 on the right as you drive south from Marathon after crossing the spectacular Seven Mile Bridge.

The famous Seven Mile Bridge runs from Marathon to Little Duck Key. This is among the longest bridges in the world. Construction of this bridge was between 1979-1982, and opened in May 1982. Even though this bridge is called the Seven Mile Bridge, it is actually 6.79 miles long. This was originally built in 1912, and converted to highway use in 1938.

At Bahia Honda State Park, you can walk up a section of the old Overseas Railroad Bridge. At the very top part and edge, this is the view of the other side of the bridge. Nothing but beautiful turquoise water as far as you can see. A spectacular view.

From the beach at Bahia Honda State Park, this is the view of the old Bahia Honda Bridge. This is on the west side of the park. The left part of the bridge is where you can walk right up to the edge. A great view and spectacular spot for pictures. Many travel magazines have called the beach here the most beautiful in Florida, and even ranked it as one of the most beautiful in the world.

This is the boat ramp area at Bahia Honda State Park, looking south, right off the side of the concession building. This is a perfect place to bring a lunch and spend the day enjoying this beautiful area. Your first trip here will just leave you breathless at how perfect this place is.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 222px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YqyKbjX7_rw/ToORpEwxtrI/AAAAAAAAHEk/hKjcnmbT6jE/s320/IMG_5366.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5657525691746465458" />Another picture looking southwest of the Bahia Honda Bridge. The island itself is made of Key Largo limestone, derived from a coral reef similar to the present day reefs in the Keys. A drop in the sea level several thousand years ago exposed portions of the ancient reef forming islands. Bahia Honda is the southern most key where this formation is evident.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qxHVWkAhy-A/TpnLAVBW53I/AAAAAAAAHFQ/xyDWw-LM4FE/s320/IMG_6251.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663781212898387826" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-o7449gDh3HU/TpnK1mDrcGI/AAAAAAAAHFE/iVrUKw2fU5M/s320/IMG_5422.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663781028492963938" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 194px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vV6_1UGCkWk/TpnKgbGBsDI/AAAAAAAAHE4/iR3WL53YUwA/s320/IMG_5414.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663780664772767794" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 262px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cKOwDqCQA7U/TpnKWsWyxYI/AAAAAAAAHEs/otfQr9nef8Y/s320/IMG_5374.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663780497607804290" />
